Winding Down with Naomi

Hmm...what is this all about, really? It's me jotting down ideas about things that go on in my life, and some occassional pictures of things I've seen and done.

'Tis a long time...

WoW!

I've been holding back on you people (all of the faithful who check my blog every second that they can to see what I might be up to!). So, sorry!

Life is busy. School now includes mostly "on-the-job" training, with some lectures on the side. Today I was at "work" from 7-4, then drove through rain and crazy O-town traffic to get to class at 5. This means I didn't get to go to the improv night I had been hoping to attend (two guys from Whose line is it anyway) with active audience participation, but I'll live.

I got this crazy sign up thingy for a gym near here. I have an appointment tomorrow to check it out, but I'm feeling shy towards it. I'd almost prefer just canceling it altogether (had to change the timing due to "work"), but I know I should be exercising. I've been doing the stairs at "work" lately- see elevator scare-last post, no, not realy! And although they are hard, I'm finding it rewarding. Thing is, I don't know if I really like the group exercise program and I don't know how motivated I'll be to drive out to a gym at the end of a long workday. I know I should be doing more, but I'm on my feet a lot and when I get home I often just want to close my tired eyes.

One thing I do find I enjoy (but not after dark or in the rain) is walking the poochie. She's excited to go, so that makes it worthwhile.

Any thoughts on how I can motivate me to do more in an exercise-type way? What do you find works for you?

Bed is calling soon, so I best get ready for classes tomorrow!

Confined spaces and fun

Well...today has already started with a bang! Or something. No *actual* banging did I hear! On my way home from *work* just after 8am, I got into the elevator and hit the buttons and heard the door close and closed my eyes.

Then I opened them. I wasn't going anywhere. These elevators have the habbit of making dinging noises as you pass/reach the other floors. No dings. I started to think: great! Just the way I want to spend the day! And then, I noticed that the floor button didn't stay pushed--or lit up, so I pushed it again, and I was on my way. (Effie, I should always treat elevators like the one on Glenridge, but I don't! These ones usually behave!)

To make the morning more interesting-- to get my car back on the wet, icky roads I had to get it out of the parking garage. WOW!! Is that one ever a windy-spiral exit. I almost missed one of the twirls because I wasn't looking for it to just continue winding down. It was the sort that I wondered if it made everyone dizzy...and made me think again about parking there!!

I'm home. I'm going to get ready for a top-up snooze. Talk to ya later!

(Ooh! Dinner plans tonight. Going out with a group for a loverly supper!!)

Whoops!

I forgot...

Sorry people. I don't know why you aren't all able to see my loverly pics of the pachyderm. I will attempt to solve the problem at some point!! (Though that point is not tonight!)

Also...for those who still lurk...click here. Thanks!

Fun comments from the weekend

Hallo!

This weekend was fun and interesting...so fun in fact that it was "funny" outside on Saturday! (I do recall saying sunny- but someone ;) heard me say funny!) It was a lovely weekend and I quite enjoyed getting outside and strolling with the pooch.

As we strolled I learned the name of one of the neighbourhood dogs-- Penny, sort for Penance! (I wonder how it got THAT name??)

Also, while at "work" someone was attepmting to set me up with a freind of thier husbands...think about that...it's an interesting location for that to be happening, when I'm on call in L & D.

This week looks like it will be a little more relaxing. Here's hoping that I'm off in time tomorrow to get a few down-time minutes before going to the mentor dessert night! I wonder what sorts of things we'll do this year?

The trees are changing colours. Their leaves are falling to the ground. We've had some great fog lately. I wonder if I don't speak clearly enough sometimes...but someone thought I said "there's a crazy father out there" when I said "there's a crazy fog out there". It's been fun to see the billows of fog on the buildings around work, early in the morning, from the 4-5th floor! I'm begining to really like fog. (At least when I don't have to drive in it!)

"You have the words of eternal life, alleluia"

After reading my brother's blog this piece of liturgy kept running through my head. Just thought I'd direct you there if you're interested in reading a rather nice/enjoyable/thought provoking sermon, and also, a similar topic is available at Kelly's blog.

Enjoy!

Is that better?

Here you go Bec...my favourite animal. I rode one this summer. I have a picture of that somewhere.... I'll find it another time.

Just thought I'd share with you: this morning I saw the most wonderful sunrise!!! It was gorgeous, and then it rained and was foggy, for the rest of the day that I've seen.

I don't mind too much.

Must run now, though, supper out tonight!

Technology.....argh!

Hi

So...I'm playing with pieces of technology. At the moment, the part that is causing the most issues is my new handheld. It STILL doesn't want to sync properly. I'm giving it the recommended time of 15-90 min for this one, but it's rather annoying!

Also- earlier, I was trying to print something, and it wasn't working, and I got this crazy message that my printer was out of paper. (I never, ever get that message)! Turns out that the printer wasn't attached fully, though it had been not long before then!

I was trying to do an online registration for the hymnal workshop that is going on here in Ottawa the end of the month, and the form wouldn't work. Sigh...the computers are ganging up on me today!

Fun at the movies

This long weekend has been a weekend full of movies, and it's not over yet!

Yesterday a bunch of movies were rented and we enjoyed a Canadian made (with recognizable scenary) movie last night. Today, after church, Terra and I went to the movies. The fun parts of the day:

The line was long...long weekend, kids anxious to go back to school??, rain all add up to many people at the movies.

We inched our way to the front, and then surged our way, as people fell out of line, as an word got out that Cars was sold out.

The closer we got, the easier it was to read the sign indicating the cost of the movie--$3. (Gotta love matinee price, in one of the not so new-release-movie showing theatres!)

Food--cost more than admission (that's to be expected, I gather!)

(We saw Superman Returns--great movie!)

The last exciting/fun bit: at one point in the movie an alarm started to go off. The timing was perfect, so we thought it was IN the movie. When the movie stopped and the alarm continued, we found out that wasn't so. We were asked to remain seated, that it was a false alarm and as soon as it was off the movie would recommense. It rang for around 10min. It was annoying. It was louder if you went out to use the break for more snacks or a bathroom run. It brought memories of elementary school fire drills (or for Terra, residence drills/alarms at 3am). It wasn't the most fun, but it silenced finally and we were back to the movie.

Ah, yes...there was more fun with movies today: lots of movies on tv this weekend. I saw bits and pieces of My Best Friend's Wedding and Beethoven and then caught an ad for Ella Enchanted...such a fun movie, and an even better book. (Yup...I enjoy children's literature and movies, they are sometimes even preferred by me!) So we watched that this evening.

I need to get away from the movies for a bit...hehe...that's why I'm heading off to sleep, with my copy of LOTR as a bedtime story. (Again- book is better than the movie, but when ISN'T that true?)
