Winding Down with Naomi

Hmm...what is this all about, really? It's me jotting down ideas about things that go on in my life, and some occassional pictures of things I've seen and done.

No pics...sigh

Hi!

I tried to print a picture today to frame...the colours were off...but I will still keep it framed. It's Peter's chickadee! I really like chickadees!

Speaking of creatures...I was called a Chia pet earlier this week...and am still hoping that it hasn't become a nickname for that person. Strange thing. Today, I styled my hair with gel...so no one wanted to touch my head. This past week I've had random and new people deciding to "pet" or rub my hair. I really don't mind that much, so long as they ask, and it doesn't turn into a noogie.

We have someone coming to look at the apartment tomorrow morning. What this means is that my room is actually clean- actually tidy, for a change. It's the one room that I don't fuss over usually- but if someone wants to look at the place, I should let it look its best. (Plus, I've been meaning and meaning to organise at some point...and now I had a really good reason to do it!)

I was hoping to get a picture to post today, or to have my pictures back from the past little while, but alas, I'm still not using the camera as I should. It sits in my purse, very contentedly, and does nothing. Outside is too mucky-boggy, early-spring-everything-just-melted to take a picture. But hopefully soon we'll get some flowers blooming. That would make me happy!! (I don't feel right taking pictures of my car left right and center--you'd all get bored looking through them!)

Oh...so yeah...I thought you'd like to see what a chia pet is...in case you don't remember them! (Grandma and Grandpa have one in their kitchen still- though it's hairless!) Check out the chia!

Odd things that they're still doing with Chia pets etc!

Rush hour

Well I did it

Me and my little car...we survived our first rush hour ever. Someone said to me "well that will be your last fun one". I personally don't agree...I don't think it was all that fun. But, I survived it, made it where I was going, enjoyed the helpfulness of some of my fellow drivers, didn't get honked at...all that fun stuff!

The name on my car is forthcoming...I'm giving him a few days to try out the name, feel it out, see if it fits. Once I know that it's his name, I'll share with you!

I'm tired...but, alas, I must go and do some reading for school...will the fun never stop?!

Back in Ottawa

Hi All!

The road weary girl has made it home. I"m all unpacked too, which is a little odd for me, but I got here in good time!

I'm liking my car. He drives well... his name is practically set...I just don't know for sure yet.

No pictures yet..I kept forgetting to pull out or bring my camera over the break! Shocking, I know! I just need to take it to a classmate get-together so I can just finish off the couple of photos left on my roll of film! ;)

I'm thinking of hitting the hay early tonight. It was a long road to travel...but! I have made the wonderful discovery that putting on The Phantom of the Opera while driving gives hours of singing enjoyment!! hehe!

I hope that you're well. The good news is Grandma is feeling well...Mom said that yesterday she looked herself again, with colour in her cheeks!!

I miss my holiday already! Back to school in the morning!

March "break"

Just curious...how many people actually manage to be healthy for their time off (holidays of one sort or another)? I seem to find an illness every time it's time for a break. I guess it means I really have to take time to relax!

The good thing is, with two weeks off, getting sick over the middle weekend isn't such a bad thing as there is time both before and after that point in time to go places and do things and wear yourself out once more!! ;)

Later today I'm heading over to visit Anna and her brother JH and Aunt Nancy. Should be a fun evening. I get to go to Anna's ballet class...even if I don't get to watch it, it should be fun.

I've seen some familiar faces around and about. It seems a little odd seeing people I haven't seen since highschool, out of the blue, but it's also fun. I'm hoping to get together with some friends later this week...if I can get around to it!

Talk to you later....I should go! Public internet means sharing!

I probably won't post again til I'm safely back in Ottawa.

New mode of transportation!

I got me an airplane....

Or not! It's actually a car. The liscence plate has a 707 on it though!! If I owned a digital camera, I would post the picture I took of it, slightly dirty from the drive down the county roads...but it's still purty. It's titanium grey- charcoal is what mom calls it- and is a Mazda three. No real bells and whistles on it though. It's got guts...and handles well. Mom found it comfy too!

I have a feeling the car's a boy...but Peter tried to tell me that all cars are Ladies...what do you think??

I had a good week in St. Catharines. I was able to do my elective, learn lots, visit a lot of friends, though not everyone--sorry Natasha!--and have a good time! I even got to play glow in the dark mini putt a couple of times. I think I'm getting better as I go!

Warning: I won't be able to blog for a few days...this being at home has its advantages--mainly I don't feel tied to the computer, but that also means I don't get to check my messages many times a day, or play on MSN. One more week off, then I'll be back in Ottawa, with internet waiting for me.

Hope all is well....I'll post pictures as soon as I have them developed!

Tired

Busy...and tired

I'm off to bed shortly, but just wanted to say hello.

ALSO! Happy Anniversary Effie and your sweetie-pie!

Today's been a long day! 10 hours with the dr...running here and there in the hospital and the office....I'm ready for bed!
(I also managed to score a couple of goals tonight playing mini-hockey with my uncles and cousins! Such fun!)

Talk to you all later!

Songs of the evening

I don’t want to study
Do dah
Do dah
I don’t want to stu-udy
Oh de do dah day!

Yeah...that about sums it up.

Plus...Keep grandma in your prayers. Today wasn't the best day for her. She's now on antibiotics for a couple of different infections, isn't breathing the best, and is sick of hospital food!

On a more happy or interesting note: while walking home from a chat with a friend, I noticed that I wasn't alone on the road (it was after dark, but I live in a pretty good neighbourhood), he was on his cellphone, which is how I noticed at first. Then we drew closer and he started to whistle. Now the only thing that came into my mind at that point is "how in the world am I scaring him? I'm carrying a small carton of milk and don't look all that big and frightening..."

Now, why would I think that, you say? It goes back to The King and I (Rodgers & Hammerstein)-- the whistling song...
Whenever I feel afraid
I hold my head erect
And whistle a happy tune
So no one will suspect
I'm afraid.

...especially this verse:
I whistle a happy tune
And ev'ry single time
The happiness in the tune
Convinces me that I'm not afraid

etc...
Yes, I'm silly, and I shouldn't be walking home alone in the dark, I know...but I was two streets from home when Erin and I had to go our separate ways, and I do feel pretty safe, especially with prayers soaring heavenward as I go! That's all folks...so although I don't want to study, I find, with only a day left for studying, that I must. Tomorrow looks like a day to memorize...such fun! (DSM IV...argh!)

Sap (py?)

Urg

My energy has been sapped. I had some earlier today, went out, ran a few errands, bought some REALLY needed new shoes- for clinical type situations, and now, I don't feel I have any energy left with which to study. (But I don't think that gets me out of studying, for some strange reason!)

Update--
Grandma is getting better bit by bit. She was up to eating Lime Jello today! (I don't know that I'd be happy with that sort of food, as I really don't like Jello, but as it's a step towards nice solids...I think it's great!) I was chatting with her on the phone, and Grandpa and mom too at the hospital. I think grandma was happy to hear from me. (Grandpa wanted to advise me on cars...hehe..fun topic!) The episode yesterday has been confirmed as a small heart attack, according to my sources! I'm glad that there are so many prayers going out for her right now! Thanks everyone!

I think that's it for now. I really must go and get some studying done.

Just a side note, nothing to worry yourselves about!! I was just about to cry earlier today, but then the tears wouldn't come...so they decided to leave me a bit of a headache instead. ;)

Familiar faces

Today I was able to join my pew buddy from last year for church. He had a conference here in Ottawa and was able to switch his flight out of town to later today so he could join us for church service. It was good to chat with him. I can hardly believe that it's been nearly a year since I saw him last!

At church today there were a lot of other familiar faces, Rebecca and Ruth from St. Thomas, some choir members that we don't see too often, some faces of young adult aged people who get into town when they can.

Also, on Wednesday evening, at the Ash Wednesday service I got to say hello to Pastor and Mrs Eiffert. (I don't know if I spelt that right!)

To see some familiar faces, you can now head to EDLYA's website Click on retreats and then Winter 2006 photos!

Such fun! It's amazing how many different people so quickly become familiar and friendly faces. I kind of feel bad that I won't see a lot of these people for a while, as with two weeks off of school coming up I'll be away for 3 weekends.

A Thursday evening--out of the ordinary

For me at least!!

Earlier today I heard that one of my classmates was trying to get rid of tickets to a Ottawa Senators game. I thought it would be a good idea, as I have no homework due tomorrow, for a change, so I started the search for someone to go with.

Needless to say, most of my class were unwilling to go because they still had the homework for tomorrow, and most of my other friends thought that it was too far, or that they had to study or work tonight. Silly people. I then wrote one last hope of an email...gave up and decided to go to Tim Hortons as a way to get some of the beautiful sunshine of today. As I was getting ready, the phone rang! Lydia wanted to join me. I quickly contacted my classmate and all was set!

My first NHL game. I wonder...will I be hooked after one game? Should I try and get something for my siblings who hold the Senators as their favourite team? I dunno!! We'll have to wait and see.

Talk to you all later--after the game!

UPDATE

Game was great--every one of the 7 goals was by a different player, the game seemed like it was over at the end of the second period because the score was 6-0...fun stuff!

The rapelling onto the ice was cool too!

Gotta run!
